GENESIS

“The Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College For Women” was established in 1968, in memory of the late philanthropist Thiru N.R.K.Rajaratnam, whose pioneering spirit in business and industry has earned for himself an indelible niche in the annals of Sivakasi. Thiru Rajaratnam’s matchless genius and tireless energy gave rise to the “The Standard Group of Industries”. The late Thiru K.A.A.Sankaralingam Nadar and Thiru K.A.A.Arunachalam Nadar and Thiru C. Chelladurai Nadar were the founder architects and stalwarts of his edifice of learning. They chalked out a programme for the dawn of higher education and intellectual upliftment of rural women in and around Sivakasi by generating the “ The Standard Fireworks Educational Charities Trust”. It was their vision to liberate the rural women from their socio, economic and cultural constraints by intellectually equipping them to confront the challenges of everyday life. Under the headship of the esteemed President Thiru Yennarkay R. Ravindran, the present Management Committee continues to liberally finance, monitor and endorse every step forward, initiated by this prestigious institution.

“The Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College For Women” was inaugurated by the then Vice-Chancellor, Sri Meenakshi Sundaram, on 27th Jan.1968. The College was initially housed in a modest building belonging to the “The Standard Group of Industries“. The Trust has been renamed “The Standard Fireworks Charities“ since Dec.1984. The College has been seated amidst a vast area of 25 acres, on the Sivakasi-Thiruthangal Road, since 1977. The college is affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University.

SFRC has ploughed ahead through the rugged rural terrain and has spearheaded the challenge to intellectually empower the young women of this rural vicinity and continues unfalteringly in its pursuit towards excellence. SFRC brims with pride at the significant milestones erected along the way – ever since its inception in 1968. In 1969, UG courses were introduced followed by PG courses in 1980. The plea and demand from the student community for more courses has led to the launching of the Self-financed courses in the year 1993. The National Accreditation & Assessment Council of Bangalore, crowned SFRC with the Five Star Status in 2002, followed by the renewed award of “A” Grade in Sep.2008. The advent of autonomy in the academic year 2005 has given us the freedom to innovate, improve and enhance our academic caliber. Every challenge has been innovatively tackled on the pathway to progress and has steered the institution to scale greater heights. Every year, SFRC witnesses the blossoming of the young women of this township into young fledglings geared to soar new horizons, armed with the requisite mettle and confidence to play their unique role and contribute their individual mite to the welfare of society and the nation. Today, SFRC stands as a dynamic testimony for its industrious perseverance, meritorious achievements and devoted service towards the cause of higher education.
